When the tradition of racing around Barbados first began over a hundred years ago, we are told that a barrel of Mount Gay Rum was awarded for the slowest boat. Schooners battled for the dubious "honour" of last place, spending days at sea to receive their reward. Today however things have changed. There are no prizes for coming last.
Class prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
These prestigious trophies are kept on permanent public display at The Mount Gay Rum Visitor's Centre, Bridgetown, Barbados.
The Mount Gay Rum Trophy is engraved with the names of the absolute record holder in both monohull and multihull classes.
Each class record will be recognised on a Mount Gay Rum Shield which is engraved with the name of the record holder.
This beautiful silver trophy is kept on perminant public display at The Mount Gay Rum Visitor's Centre, Bridgetown, Barbados. Engraved with the name of the record holder in the Classic Yacht class.
On setting a new record in any of the existing classes, the record breaking yacht will be rewarded with Mount Gay Rum Extra Old equivalent to the weight of the registered skipper.
